Emoji Doctor
A pretend clinic where every visit ends with a hug

Round, colourful patients come into the clinic with a big feeling: sad, hot, dizzy, scared, bored. The child drags a tool from the tray to the right spot and the face changes while they work, from tears to a smile. Every visit ends with a hug, stars, gems and a sticker.

About the game

Emoji Doctor is pretend play, close to a toy doctor's bag. Each of the 17 patients has its own head shape, colour and feeling, and each needs two things plus a hug. Sunny is sad and wants his tears wiped with a tissue. Sid is scared in a dark room and wants the moon lamp switched on and a teddy to hold. Hugo is hungry and gets three spoonfuls of soup and a drink of water.

The faces are drawn live by the game, so they react to every movement: a thermometer held half as long as needed shows a face that is half better. A speech bubble shows which tool the patient is asking for and a ring marks where it goes. A wrong tool gets a small hmm and a shake of the head, and the tool glides back to the tray. Nothing can be failed, and the game says plainly in its parent corner that it is play, not medical advice.

What is inside

Sunny, a sad orange patient, having his tears wiped with a tissue; a ring around his cheeks shows the progress

A visit, step by step

From the waiting room the child taps a patient. It rolls into its room, the name of the feeling appears under it, and three hearts at the top count the steps. A bubble next to the patient shows the tool it wants and a small arrow shows the movement.

The child picks the tool from the tray and brings it to the dashed ring. A tissue is rubbed across the cheeks, a thermometer is held on the forehead, cream is dabbed on three spots, a bubble wand is held by the mouth until three bubbles float off. The ring fills as the step is done and the face eases a little more each time.

Sol, a hot red patient in the garden, asking for a cloth; the Big mode tray holds five tools

19 tools and two age modes

The tray holds everyday comfort things, not medical instruments: a tissue, an ice pack, a plaster, a pillow, a fan, water, a cloth, cream, a teddy, a moon lamp, soup, tea, a blanket, a bubble wand, a toothbrush and more. Eight gestures cover them all: hold, rub, dab, swipe, spoon, drop, blow and wave.

In Little mode the tray has 3 tools, the right one glows, the target ring is always visible and a hand shows the move after a few seconds. In Big mode the tray has 5 tools and the ring appears only when the right tool is in hand. A light bulb button gives a hint in either mode.

Result screen with happy Sunny, three stars, 26 gems and a card showing Sad turning into Happy

A hug, stars, gems and a sticker

The third step is always the same: the child holds a big red heart against the patient for a hug. Its eyes turn into hearts and confetti falls. A bonus star floats past for a few seconds and can be caught with a tap.

The result screen shows up to 3 stars, the gems earned and a small before-and-after card, for example Sad to Happy. The first cure of each patient opens the next one in the waiting room and adds a card to the Feelings Book and a sticker to the album.

Feelings Book with the card Sad opened large, showing Sunny crying, with a sound button

The Feelings Book

The book collects 22 cards: the 17 feelings the patients arrive with, plus Happy, Proud, Calm, Excited and Loved. A card opens when the child has met that feeling in play. Tapping a card shows the face large with its name, and a sound button plays the little noise that goes with it, a sniffle, a yawn, a hiccup.

The word under each face is written in the chosen language, so a parent can read it out and talk about it.

Match the Feeling, level 1: a sleepy blue face above three answer cards in a pink playroom

Four mini games about faces

Match the Feeling shows one face and asks which of three, later four, others feels the same; it has 12 levels of five rounds. Mood Memory is a pairs game with 3, 6 or 8 pairs of faces. In Calm Bubbles a bubble grows and shrinks like a breath, and six well-timed taps turn a furious face calm. Mirror Me shows a small card and the child builds the same face from rows of eyebrows, eyes and mouths.

Match is open from the start. The other three open after three patients have been helped.

Face Studio with a pink character with bear ears and a wide smile, six tabs and a row of mouths to choose from

Face Studio

In the studio the child builds a character of their own: 12 colours, 5 head shapes, freckles, stripes or a belly patch, 7 toppers such as a sprout or little horns, 8 pairs of eyes and 8 mouths. Up to three gift accessories from the shop can be worn at once. The camera button saves the picture to an in-game gallery of 12 photos.

My Clinic shop, Decor tab, with a plant, fish bowl, toy box, balloons, lamp and painting all bought

My Clinic

Gems from visits and games are spent in My Clinic. The Decor tab has 6 things for the waiting room: a plant, a fish bowl, a toy box, balloons, a star lamp and a painting. The Gifts tab has 12 accessories, from a nurse cap to bunny ears, for the studio and the stickers. A daily gift box on the title screen adds a few gems, and a medals page tracks 12 goals such as 10 patients helped or 20 hugs.

How to play

  1. Tap the big Play button and choose a patient in the waiting room.
  2. Look at the bubble next to the patient to see which tool it wants.
  3. Drag that tool from the tray to the dashed ring and rub, hold, dab or wave as the arrow shows.
  4. Do the same for the second tool and watch the face change.
  5. Hold the red heart on the patient for a hug, then tap the floating bonus star.
  6. Collect stars, gems and a sticker, and move on to the next patient.
  7. Visit the Feelings Book, the mini games, the Face Studio and My Clinic from the title screen.

For parents

Your child plays a kind helper, not a surgeon. The tools are a tissue, a blanket, a cup of tea, a teddy. There are no needles, no blood and no frightening pictures, and the game states in its parent corner that it does not give medical advice. What the child does is look at a face, find the thing that would help and carry it over with a finger.

A visit takes about a minute and cannot be failed; a wrong tool gets a hmm and goes back to the tray. Little mode shows three tools and plenty of hints, Big mode shows five tools and fewer hints. You switch between them in the settings, which open after holding the gear for 1.5 seconds. The same screen has the language, a reset button and three short tips for talking about feelings together.

Reading is not needed to play. The name of each feeling is written under the face in the chosen language, which is handy if you want to say the word together.

Emoji Doctor is fully offline. It has no ads, no purchases, no account, no chat and no links out, asks for no Android permissions and collects nothing. Gems are earned by playing and spent on decorations and accessories inside the game. It has 20 interface languages picked from the device language, a switcher on the title screen and a sound button. All sound is synthesised; there are no recorded voices.

Questions and answers

What age is Emoji Doctor for?

Children of 3 to 9. Little mode suits the youngest with three tools and constant hints; Big mode gives five tools and fewer hints.

Is it a medical game?

No. It is pretend play with comfort items such as a tissue, a blanket and a teddy. It does not give medical advice and the game says so in its parent corner.

Does my child need to read?

No. Tools and requests are pictures. Feeling names are shown as one word under the face, in the language you choose, and can be read aloud by a parent.

Does it work offline?

Yes, fully. The game makes no network calls and asks for no Android permissions.

Are there ads or purchases?

No. Gems are earned in play and are the only currency. Nothing is sold for money.

Is progress saved?

Yes, on the device only. Reset in the settings or uninstalling the app clears it.

What are the photos in the Face Studio?

Pictures of the character the child built, drawn by the game. The camera of the device is not used. Up to 12 are kept in the in-game gallery and they never leave the app.
