Birthday Party
Throw the whole party for an animal friend

Your child picks an animal friend and one of five theme worlds, then does everything a party needs: decorates the room, stacks a cake, wraps presents, dresses the guests and plays the party games. The day ends with a party photo that goes into the album.

About the game

Birthday Party is a make-and-play game in two halves. First come four quiet making stages, Decorate, Cake, Presents and Guests, where the child drags and taps things into place with no clock running. Then the party starts and the same room, cake, presents and guests appear in six short party games.

The party is always for the animal friend. The game never asks for the child's name, age or birthday, and there is nothing to type anywhere.

What is inside

Pick a theme screen showing the dinosaur world with its topper, pinata and hat, and three colour sets, two of them locked for 12 stars

Pick a friend and a theme

Five animal friends wait on the first screen: a bear, a bunny, a fox, an elephant and a penguin. The one the child taps becomes the birthday host, and three of the others come to the party as guests.

Next is a carousel of five theme worlds: pirates, unicorns, dinosaurs, space and jungle. Each world has its own room picture, garland flags, tablecloth, cake topper, pinata, party hat, music and colour set. Under the card are three colour sets; the first is open, and the other two cost 12 stars each.

Cake stage on the pirate deck: a three-layer cake with pink icing drip, fruit, a cookie, sprinkles, three candles and a dinosaur topper

Decorate the room and build the cake

In the Decorate stage the child hangs a garland, drags theme decorations onto the wall, lets go of up to 12 balloons in 8 colours, round or star-shaped, picks one of 6 tablecloth patterns, puts treats on the table, lays a floor mat and switches on confetti.

The Cake stage has five tabs. The child adds layers with the plus button, up to four, makes the cake tiered or straight, pours a drip of icing, taps a layer to change its flavour colour, drags on cherries, strawberries, macarons, cookies, lollipops and cupcakes, draws sprinkles with a finger in five shapes, sets the theme topper on top and adds up to five candles.

Presents stage: a red starry box with a blue bow, a thought bubble showing the spyglass inside, and four finished presents in a row

Wrap the presents

Up to four presents can be made. For each one the child first chooses what goes inside, a small picture such as a treasure chest, a spyglass or a toy unicorn, shown in a thought bubble next to the box. Then comes the wrapping: 8 paper colours, 8 bow colours and 4 paper patterns, plain, striped, dotted and starry.

The row at the top shows all the presents made so far. A tap brings one back for a change, and the bin button removes it. What was packed matters later, because the same presents are opened during the party.

Guests stage: a fox, a penguin and a bear in cone hats with glasses, a bow tie and rosy cheeks, and the bunny host in a dinosaur hat with a party horn

Dress the guests

The three guests and the host line up for hats. The child drags a cone hat in one of 8 colours, or the special hat of the theme, onto each head. A second tab has four extras: star glasses, a bow tie, rosy cheeks and a party horn.

A bar across the top of all four making stages shows up to three stars for each. A fuller room, a taller cake, more presents and better dressed guests fill them, and the green arrow moves on whenever the child is ready, with any number of stars.

Party room on the pirate deck with balloons, a coin garland, four animals around the cake, four presents and the tray of party games

The party room

Now everything comes together in one picture: the decorated wall and balloons, the guests behind the table, the cake in the middle and the presents in front. A tray at the bottom holds seven round buttons, one for each party game and a camera for the photo.

The games can be played in any order and repeated; the highest result of each counts. The camera wakes up after the first game. The green arrow ends the party when the child has had enough, so a short party with two games is as valid as a long one with all six.

Pinata game in the dinosaur world: a yellow dinosaur pinata swings on a rope while the bunny host watches, two of five hits done

Six party games

Each game takes under a minute, gives one to three stars and cannot be lost.

  • Blow the candles: strike the match, light the candles, then swipe across the cake to blow them out. One trick candle lights itself again.
  • Balloon pop: 40 seconds of popping balloons as they float up; one golden balloon hides a prize.
  • Pinata: tap as the theme pinata swings past, five hits open it, then slide a finger to catch the sweets.
  • Pass the parcel: tap the next guest to pass the parcel while the music plays; when it stops, swipe to tear off a layer of paper. Three parcels, each with a prize inside.
  • Musical statues: everybody dances, the music stops, and the child taps each animal to freeze it. Three rounds.
  • Open the presents: pick a present, pull the ribbon, and see what was packed inside.

The photo, the album and the Party Box

For the party photo the child picks a pose for the animals and one of three frame colours and presses the camera. The stars of the whole party are then counted and added to the star total, and the party is saved as a card in the album. The album keeps the latest 24 parties; a tap opens one, and the replay button starts its games again with the same room and cake.

Stars are spent in the Party Box, a collection of 48 pictures: six for each theme and 18 shared ones such as the balloon and the cupcake. A party with 10 stars or more adds a new picture as a gift, and so does the daily gift on the title screen. Twelve badges mark milestones such as the first party, a party in every theme and a three-star cake.

For parents

The first half is free building with drag and tap, and nothing in it is timed. The second half is six short action games: swiping, tapping moving things, catching. They are forgiving, each gives at least one star, and the child decides how many of them to play. A whole party takes around ten minutes and ends with a photo and a star count, which is a clear place to stop. A party left half-way is kept and can be continued.

Reading is not needed. The game has 14 words in total, on the menu buttons and stage titles, and everything else is pictures. Numbers appear as star prices in the Party Box (4, 8 and 12), which gives older children a small saving goal.

Birthday Party works fully offline. It has no ads, no purchases, no account, no Android permissions, no chat and no links out, and it collects nothing. The party photo is a drawing made by the game from the child's choices; the camera of the device is never used. Stars are earned by playing only.

The interface is available in 20 languages, chosen automatically from the device and changeable behind the globe on the title screen. A sound button is on the title screen and on every play screen. All sound is synthesised on the device. There are no other settings to prepare.

Questions and answers

What age is Birthday Party for?

About 3 to 9. Younger children enjoy the cake and the balloons; older ones aim for three stars in every stage, the badges and a full Party Box.

Does the game ask for my child's name or birthday?

No. The party is for the animal friend, and there is no text or voice input anywhere in the game.

Does the party photo use the camera?

No. The photo is a picture drawn by the game from the room, cake and guests your child made. It stays in the album inside the app.

Does it work offline?

Yes, fully. The game has no network access.

Are there ads or purchases?

No. Stars come from playing and from a daily gift, and they are the only thing spent in the Party Box.

How long is one party?

Around ten minutes with all the stages and games. The party games can be skipped or repeated, so it can be shorter or longer.

Is progress saved?

Yes, on the device only: stars, the Party Box, badges and the latest 24 parties in the album. Uninstalling the app removes them.
